Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) on ucareer.net

How do I set up a ucareer.net profile?

It's simple to set up a ucareer.net profile by just following these easy steps:

1. Set up your user account - Just fill out the account information form on the registration page. Please provide us with the username and password of your choice, as well as your personal information: your full name, address, city, state, and zip code. Click “Submit” and you should be taken to the “Profile Setup” page.

2. Set up your profile page - To get the most of your ucareer.net experience, please fill out the following in full on the profile setup page:

•Headline: This is the title all of your fellow members will see if your name pops up on search results or on your friends' profile pages. We advise that you use the headline to reflect your job title or your occupation. However, we also encourage that you make your headline as attractive as possible so that others will be inclined to visit your profile page and see how wonderful you are!

•Picture: This is the avatar that your fellow members will see on your profile page and in search results. Don't be shy, post a picture of yourself!

•Search tags: Tags are keywords to make your profile page easier for people to find. We encourage that you choose search tags that are applicable to your location (e.g. Los Angeles), education (e.g. UCLA), your line of work or study (e.g. web design, marketing), and job-specific skills (e.g. database management, HTML). In addition, please feel free to add tags that reflect your hobbies and interests. So, if you like playing basketball or enjoy surfing, go right ahead and use your hobby as a search tag! After all, we encourage everyone to be themselves in creating their profiles!

•Resume: Upload a file of your resume which we will then convert into a text resume which you can display to only the people you allow to view. We accept DOC, PDF, RTF, and TXT file formats.

•Video: Post a video of yourself, your works, your hobbies, and your interests. Enter a title and a helpful description about what your video is about and you're ready to go!

3. Fill out your profile questionnaire  - After setting up your profile page, you will be taken to your profile questionnaire, a set of questions that helps you best in expressing your career goals, your abilities, your skills, and career experiences. You can fill out this questionnaire at any time, if and when you have time. We encourage that you be as descriptive as possible to better help in portraying yourself as the awesome individual that you really are!

4. Ready, set, go! You have completed registration, set up your profile, but what next, you ask? At ucareer.net, we provide you a slew of features that help you in your job search and networking goals! What is this reputation score attached to my profile and how does it work?

A reputation score is the number of points you've added up on the ucareer.net site; the more points you have, the higher your reputation is! We've added a reputation score not just to show how active (and invaluable) of a member you are, but also to help you make an even better impression on prospective employers that you are and will be a fantastic addition to any company!

How do I increase my reputation score?

You can increase your reputation score by doing the following things:

•Getting good endorsements: When you receive an endorsement, your reputation score increases. If your endorser gives you high marks on the survey scales, your reputation score will increase. If you receive an endorsement by a member with a high reputation score, then you receive a higher boost to your reputation score.

•Posting the most helpful answers in the Q&A forums: When you participate in our Q&A forums and provide the best answers to open questions in our forums, as voted by your fellow members, your reputation score increases.

•Inviting your friends to join ucareer.net: Each time you invite your friends to join ucareer.net, you gain points on your reputation score, and the more points you're rewarded with for each friend that joins.

•Receiving connection invites: The more connection invites you receive, the more points you tack onto your reputation score.

In short, being an active, model member won't go unrewarded and we'll reward you with a higher reputation score because of it! On top of that, you could be in line to win a few prizes in our seasonal contests!

How do I invite my friends to join ucareer.net?

On each page on the site, there's a link to the "invite my friends" page to allow you one-click access to invite your friends and you can generally find this page on your "Dashboard" page where your account settings are stored.

The invite page will populate with the names and corresponding email addresses from your email address book, based off the email you provided us with when you opened your account or edited your account settings. Simply choose your friends' email addresses and we'll send them an email message that you've invited them! That easy! If your friend has joined by clicking on the specialized link in the email invite, you will gain points to your reputation score!

How do I request an endorsement?

We recommend sending formal endorsement email requests, especially if you're meaning to get a request from a non-ucareer.net member. On your Dashboard, there should be a "request an endorsement" link to the endorsement request page.

Something doesn't quite work. How do I report a bug or page error?

Please go to our Contact Us page and fill out the bug form there. We run what's called a ticketing system on our site which relays errors in the most efficient way to give you the quickest fix. This will also open up interaction between you and our staff to ensure that everything on the site functions in the way it's intended to.

You can also contact us at support ucareer.net for any support or non-support inquiry.
